A Message from Our Principal

Dear Parents and Students,

Principal Stevens with cheer teamMy name is Charles Stevens, and it is an honor and a privilege to serve as principal of Mechanicsville High School. Our school and school division have a strong tradition and commitment to excellence in education. Our learning community is dedicated to your student’s education. Whether our students want to pursue higher education or careers after high school, we prepare them for success. Together, our administrative team, faculty, and staff put an extraordinary amount of time and effort into making sure our student’s needs come first.

About Mr. Stevens

During his 30 years in secondary public education, Mr. Stevens has served as a school principal, an assistant principal, a school teacher, a peer coach and mentor, a publications adviser, a club sponsor, and an athletics coach. He earned his undergraduate degree in communications/journalism from Lynchburg College in 1991. Prior to entering the education field, Mr. Stevens was head women’s basketball coach at Lynchburg. While coaching, he obtained his M.Ed. in sports psychology from the University of Virginia. 

Mr. Stevens spent the majority of his career in education teaching journalism and advising the yearbook and school newspaper at what was then Lee-Davis High School. He also spent eight years serving as a behind-the-wheel driver’s education instructor. In 2006, he graduated from the University of Virginia with his Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and had the honor of receiving the Gold Key from Columbia Scholastic Press Association at their 2010 conference in New York City.  In 2019, he was the recipient of the R.E.B. Leadership Award for Hanover County Public Schools.

Mr. Stevens and his wife reside in Mechanicsville and have been married for 32 years. Their two sons, ages 30 and 27, are both graduates of the school he now leads.
